When I started college, I also started facing new skin troubles such as dry skin, random breakouts, and very tired-looking eyes. I quickly realized that I had to change the way I was caring for my skin in order to get my skin healthy again. Here are 5 tips that have really helped me achieve that since then.

Don’t sleep in your makeup
Okay, this one is hard I know! We have all had those nights when we are already laying comfortable in bed and then realize we have not taken our makeup off, and you do not want to get up to do it, so you don't. Well next time think a little harder and just do it!! In my experience, sleeping in makeup almost always leads to dry skin or blemishes. You need to let your skin get some rest too from all the products put on it that day. I’ve learned that it is very helpful to at least keep a pack of face cleaner wipes on my nightstand, so when Im too lazy to wash my face, I can at least remove most of my makeup from that day. Obviously, doing your whole nighttime skin routine is ideal, but sometimes it’s just not realistic and that’s when cleansing wipes are perfect.
Start using an eye cream
Dull under-eye bags are inevitable after too many late nights studying or going out with your friends. What I have come to learn is that the area under your eyes is super sensitive and requires extra care and moisture. Eye cream helps revitalize your under eyes after a long night and helps prevent laugh lines in the future! My personal favorite eye cream is Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Moisturizer. You can find this and many others like it at CVS for just $14.
Make caring for your skin feel like a treat
High levels of stress, a lack of sleep, and an unhealthy diet all lead to breakouts in college. A solid tip for preventing this is to invest in good skincare products and make caring for your skin a relaxing treat. Specifically, Most importantly, exfoliate regularly, cleanse and moisturize 1-2 times daily. Once I started cleansing and moisturizing my face morning and night in addition to exfoliating every two to three days, I noticed my skin was much clearer and felt so much healthier.
Try a vitamin C serum
Prior to college, the only thing I knew about vitamin C was that I drank it in orange juice when I was getting sick. Vitamin C is good for more then helping your immune system, it actually is really helpful in fading sunspots and keeping your skin tone even and bright. It was a revelation I wish I found out sooner then I did. There are 100's of serums to choose from but the best for your skin will fall usually between concentrations of 10 to 15%. A good one to try is Clinique Fresh Pressed - Daily Booster with Pure Vitamin C 10%.
Always wear sunscreen
You've all heard it from your parents, "Make sure you wear sunscreen!" I never really listened to them but I have learned over time that you should actually wear sunscreen daily, especially in the winter. Sunscreen is important for preventing both premature aging and dark sunspots. Now, I use a moisturizer every morning with SPF 15, and I also have SPF in my foundation. Ultimately, when you’re young it’s all about maintaining healthy skin and preventing future damage by establishing good habits sooner rather then later, so always listen to your parents because they somehow always end up being right, and your older self will definitely thank you in the ling run!!
